You cannot have a new experience without it literally changing your mind, and life cannot exist without continuous growth and expansion. You are actually changing as you read these words. You are moving, growing, expanding, and changing. It is no secret that the world around you is constantly changing as well.

There is no question: You are changing. The wonderful thing about this “Human Experience” is that you have the power and ability to direct changes in your life. In fact, what you feel, think, say, and believe about your life is constantly putting change into motion, regardless of whether you realize it or not. You are creating your life as you go along,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so you might as well create it intentionally. All that is required is a choice. YOU ARE AT A CHOICE POINT. You can choose to continue on with your life as you currently are living it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], letting the external world and your past dictate what you experience, or you can choose to create your life to be everything that you dream.
1. Discontent—You grow increasingly unhappy and discontent with an area of your life. You “hang in there,” tolerate, ignore, repress, or otherwise deal with the circumstance because it is comfortable and familiar, and you fear change.
2. Breaking Point—Eventually your level of discontent builds high enough that you cannot take it any more. You reach a “breaking point,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” either through exhaustion or due to a dramatic event occurring that triggers the break.
3. Declaration—You declare that you will no longer tolerate the undesirable situation and you take the first step toward change, giving you a short-lived sense of hope.

You’re letting your fear be bigger than you. You don’t believe you can do it. You don’t trust yourself. You put everyone else before yourself. You’d rather tolerate severe pain than face temporary discomfort. Are you really willing to settle?
You don’t want to change. You don’t really want the thing you think you want. You may be trying to convince yourself that you should change to appease others or conform to what you believe you “should” do. If you don’t want to change, accept it.
Understanding the Change Cycle
2. Self-Honesty: You have the humbling experience of realizing that there’s a part of you that doesn’t really want to change. You are comfortable with your habits, with what you know. You have a lot of fear that holds you back. You have many self-limiting beliefs. You receive some sort of benefit from staying where you are. You are unhappy because you want to be unhappy. You are addicted to the situation. You believe your pain is you; it’s your story. You can see your resistance to letting it go. Only after reaching this level of self-honesty can you truly choose to change.
You don’t know what you want. You don’t know what you really want or you’re not allowing yourself to go for what you really want. Try imagining what you would want if time, money, and people did not limit you.
You do not need to wait until a flood to move your home away from the shoreline.
1. Extreme Pain: You have a breaking point that is severe enough to push through the change cycle that ends in backtracking. For many people, unfortunately, it takes an extreme circumstance to push them to evolve, such as major financial loss, job loss, loss of a loved one, the ending of a relationship, a severe accident, or a nervous breakdown.
We live in a time of unprecedented change, as technology expands our reach and capabilities, as global connectivity transforms our borders and cultures, and as more and more people find themselves feeling the effects of worldwide spiritual evolution.
Most people find deliberate change to be a difficult process. Many well-intentioned people have changes they want to make in their lives, but they get stuck repeating the same “change cycle” over and over again.
Your dream isn’t big enough. The reward isn’t big enough. You aren’t excited. Happiness is excitement. Passion is what makes you willing to endure to attain a goal. What would you do ANYTHING to attain?

If you are brave enough to make feeling good the primary priority of your life and then take the steps necessary to enable your own joy as well as reduce stress levels, you can find yourselves living the life that you want to live. A Life that feels good to be living and a life full of health and freedom and joy.

Another class of presuppositions is presuppositions of causality. I'll illustrate by example:
It has much more to do with the fact that *there is a reason at all*, and because you used the word 'because.'
This activates the 'click-whirr' mechanism inside people's heads, as Robert Cialdini phrases it, to get them thinking, "Yup, that sounds reasonable. Let's do it."
That's all for now.
Ain't so! Most decisions are made emotionally and justified rationally after the fact. Emotions operate at an unconscious level, which is exactly where presuppositions work, too.
Let's get on with another tip on conversational magic.
The power is within you,

"Naturally you want to buy this car because it gets great gas mileage."
Now I've teased you about combining presuppositions, so it's not fair for me not to give you at least one example of how to do that easily and effortlessly.
"This persuasion course is great for you BECAUSE it will add to your wealth and happiness,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
But if they say, "Can I cut in line because I'm late for a job interview and need to make some copies?", compliance goes up to 97%. Big difference.
To carry out the metaphor or persuasion as a building, we start with the foundation, which is self-persuasion and rapport. If you don't believe in the product,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you can't sell it; and if you can't connect to your customer, you can't sell him or her. Those two come first.
When you add a 'causality tag' with a word like 'because' or 'since', the part that precedes it automatically becomes presupposed.
So next time you're talking, just incorporate those adverbs into your normal speech. My favorites are naturally, easily and clearly.

If I were to give the first sentence a 3 or 4 on the 10-point persuasiveness scale, then the second sentence gets a 5 or 6 at least.
Pretty crazy. This says that it's not the compelling nature of the reason that makes people comply. That just gives you a 3% edge, if that, over some nonsense reason like 'I need to make copies' (as opposed to what—coffee? Doughnuts? Right).
"This car is a great choice for you."
"Clearly this car is a great choice for you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
Yessir (or ma'am)—adverbs are a class of presuppositions unto themselves.
I've cited Prof Ellen Langer's copy machine experiment several times before since it illustrates that point so well.
"You can decide to give me a raise."
"You can easily decide to give me a raise,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
Good morning! It's a glorious Monday morning here in Los Angeles, and I'm sure you're just as thrilled as I am to be back at your desk.
On top of that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you can now put presuppositions—like laying down the bricks. And also some technical proficiency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like vocal control.
And you need to know how to lay those bricks down—what the larger pattern is going to be. And for that, you have stories, decision strategies, and a synthesis of all the tools.
"You want to buy this car BECAUSE it gets great gas mileage."
Are you adding any more relevant information when you say "Naturally you want to take this course,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?" as opposed to just "You want to take this course"? No. Most people think that it's additional information and logic that makes people decide.
"Bob, you want to take this course."
"Naturally, Bob, you want to take this course."
"Logically you want to give me a raise because it will improve my productivity,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
Naturally, you can do this, too. Pick your major premise. Stick a 'because' and a reason after it. And start with an adverb like 'naturally' or 'easily' and presto! You have way-persuasive sentence whereas before you had plain-vanilla request.
Now in the vast edifice of persuasion, presuppositions are the bricks. Like a brick, they are pretty effective in their own right. However, their true power lies in what bigger structures you can build with them.
If someone cuts in line and says "Can I cut in line,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], please?", 60 to 70% of the time the person lets them cut.
At the very least, I expect to be able to make your day a little more interesting with this email, which I believe will be more entertaining and enlightening than most of the random gray bytes that find their way into our mailboxes these days.
But wait! Here's the kicker: if she says "Can I cut in line because I want to make copies?", compliance is at 94%.
"Naturally you want to get this persuasion course because it will add to your wealth and joy."
In the last article, we talked about the power of presuppositions, and how the mind has to accept certain parts of a sentence as true in order to understand a given sentence.
Now just by adding a 'clearly' to the sentence, it's not like I'm going to jump up, hand over my credit card and buy the car. However, something soft yet subtly powerful is sneaking its way into your head. You can already feel it.
"You'd like to give me a raise BECAUSE it increases my productivity."
One of my discoveries along the path of learning NLP was the persuasive power of adverbs. Adverbs, you say? Those prosaic-looking words that end in -ly and modify verbs?

Human beings are curious creatures, and for some unfathomable reason, whenever you add one of those 'because' tags,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they just go along with what you say.
Before I get all technical on you, just read the following pairs of sentences and judge for yourself their relative persuasive power:
Any number of adverbs can work this way: Joyfully. Intuitively. Obviously. What I recommend is to pick two or three, stick them on a Post-It note on your phone or computer, and make a habit of using them regularly.
