The 69 tasks amount to a fundamental reshaping of the military. The military needs a radical overhaul to prepare for that and develop the ability to defend the country on its own.

The aim is to cut defense spending while reforming the military to respond to changing time through the use of computers in strategic planning and unmanned robots in operations. Korea must not fall behind.
The first step is crucial,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. There is apparently considerable concern within the military about the proposed reductions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. There could also be opposition to steps to change the Army-centered structure of the military. Military reform efforts in the past were scuppered by such opposition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The government must find a way to reform the military by minimizing opposition and boosting morale,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The most important goal is to create a military that is respected by the public and to instill the belief that the troops are being properly treated by the nation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

Pakistani officials say Taliban militants in North Waziristan have kidnapped about 400 students at a military college in Bannu district. Police in Bannu district say the students were traveling in around 30 vehicles and were stopped Monday evening after leaving Razmak Cadet College by heavily armed militants.
